This Peculiar Pause

This peculiar pause

between summer and autumn

when the temperature drops

and brings a comforting chill

with autumn’s east wind

This peculiar pause

between seasoned lovers

where the summer sun stretches

in shades of pink…

that precious lingering moment

where summer’s heat isn’t ready

to let go

and autumn’s aching chill

for his lover’s arms

is ready to consume

this peculiar pause

where the last summer rains

wash away her sins

as she prepares for the next phase

when autumn can contain his chill no longer

and gives into his summer’s dog days

when hot and cold juxtapose

the sun’s passion warming the skin

until she sets for the moon

and autumn’s longing

for his summer’s rays

cause the bones to shiver

The metaphor of seasons as lovers is marvelous. This is magical and rich in emotional expression. Beautifully crafted, my friend! ♥
