Throwback Thursday #13

I wrote this poem two years ago for my aunt, who was battling cancer at the time. We don’t always see eye-to-eye, but fortunately, I am not the type of person who has to agree with every topic to get along with someone. Otherwise, I would never get along with anyone.

I will always cherish my fond memories with her, and I am eternally grateful for them and the lessons intertwined.

Seasons of life continuously change, and we all find ourselves clinging to hope for something or someone. Whatever your season of life has brought you to, whether you want to embrace the inevitable changes or not, I hope you dive in head first and that the journey ahead is gentle.

Love & life lessons,

Kristian

Seasons

The very first ornament I was ever gifted. Given to me by my aunt for my very first Christmas. December 25, 1984. (I still have it. I hang it on my tree every year!

Another landslide of life

has brought us down

standing in icy streams

holding fast to unsteady ground

Time waits for no one

seasons change in the blink of an eye

the reflection shows a little girl

yet it is silver hair and wrinkles I spy

Can we adjust our sails

with the east wind

can the child within us

rise again

Seasons may have changed

and so have we

but love still grows

on our family tree

***

Can we handle another season

of raging tides

can we balance the beams

on bumpy rides

The last remaining bloodline

of a family that has passed

and with the ticking of the clock

I am holding steadfast

I don’t have the answers

and you don’t want to talk

but I am beside you

let’s have one of our walks

Seasons may have changed

and so have we

but love still grows

on our family tree

***

My tears have fallen

and I’m sure yours have too

and these icy streams are cold

but I am here with you

Maybe not in person

but we’re never far apart

just look at your reflection

and find me in your heart

We don’t have to speak

we can watch the sunrise in the park

and when the sun refuses to shine

I will sit with you in the dark

Seasons may have changed

and so have we

but love still grows

on our family tree

Lovely poem. Nice arrangement of that song, too. I had not heard this one.
