Two Minutes

sunset on north tower.jpg

Today while browsing Instagram, I came across a post by Neil Degrasse Tyson. He talked about the sunset on the North Tower of the World Trade Center, and how it took two minutes for the sun to set on all 107 floors, one floor at a time.

It left me thinking about endings, and how humanity always seems to be the most beautiful during these times.

Christmas, for example, everyone is more joyous and spreading love and cheer during the end of the year. Everyone always says they want to carry that spirit throughout the year, but after the New Year and the tree is taken down, everyone is back at each other’s throats. Brother against brother, party against party.

It is a nice thought, knowing that in times of tragedy, we can depend on our fellow man. On this day, eighteen years ago, we developed a unity. It didn’t matter what your skin color was, what political party you stood with, who you loved, or who you worshiped, we were simply just people, trying to wrap our minds around such an evil act of terrorism, and comfort one another.

Why can’t it be this way all of the time? When did we lose that sense of the human spirit that lies inside each and everyone of us?

On September 10th, 2001, the sun didn’t know that it would kiss the World Trade Center goodnight for the very last time. Just like we don’t know that when we close our eyes to go to sleep every night, it could be for the very last time.

So I want to encourage you my friends, loved ones, and even my enemies (although, I highly doubt you’re reading this,) to stop putting today off for tomorrow. If this were your last two minutes, who would you say I love you to? Who would you ask for forgiveness from? Why wait?

Every day is a precious gift, and what better way to honor a day like today than by living? Truly living? What better way to point a big middle finger towards hatred and violence, than by continuing to carry that love and light that we did on this day eighteen years ago?

Think about it. What would you do with your last two minutes?

*Special Thanks to Neil Degrasse Tyson for the inspiration for this post.

September 11th, 2001. We will ALWAYS remember!

Love & life lessons,

Kristian

There was definitely a unity 18 years ago and you are right, why can’t we be like that all the time? I think if it were my last 2 minutes I would call my husband because was always my goto when I would have anxiety or a bad dream. I would never be able to choose between my 5 kids. Yeah – definitely my husband. Beautiful post! xo
