March Writing Prompt Challenge

Every month Didi Oviatt creates a lovely prompt. I have really been enjoying these and I was elated when I saw this month’s prompt. You can click on Didi’s name to be directed to her wonderful site. I recommend you hang around a while, she is a fabulous writer.

Before we begin let me just say that this was a bit of a challenge for me to write. I have always wanted to write a steamy, romantic scene, but words always seemed to fail me. I don’t want to write erotica, it’s just not my thing to turn something so beautiful into something so vulgar. I mean no offence to those of you who enjoy it. I do enjoy steamy scenes, myself. I mean 9 1/2 Weeks is one of my favorite movies. I suppose the reason I’ve been timid about sharing a story like this with you, my dear readers, is because although this story is fiction, I put a little bit of myself into all of my stories. This one leaves me a little vulnerable because I’m sharing my sensual side with you.

With that being said, I would greatly appreciate feedback as this is my first time really writing something this steamy, but Didi asked for juice, so I wanted to give that to her, and to you, my dear readers. Both positive and critical feedback are welcome, just please be gentle because I have shared my soul with you.

I give you:

Magic In The Moonlight

Nearly three weeks had passed since Cara had last spoke to Michael. She sat in bed, reading the emails he had sent her when they had first started talking. Her Keurig was sitting next to her on her night stand and she sighed when she realized she needed to fill the reservoir with water. She went downstairs to fill it at her kitchen sink so she could also grab the cookie dough from the fridge.

She was so lost in the words Michael had written to her that she failed to hear her friend, Mandy break into her house and make her way to her bedroom.

“Lord, it’s worse than I imagined!” Mandy exclaimed.

Cara looked up at her with tears in her eyes.

“You’ve resulted to reading emails now? Cause last week it was text messages.”

“I still read those too.”

“Cara, this isn’t healthy.”

“Well it’s hardly my fault everything he says is smoother than the cream cheese I spread on my bagel.”

Mandy scoffed, “Girl, you’ve got it bad.”

“I know,” Cara sighed slumping her shoulders in defeat and stuffing her face into the pillow. “I don’t understand, things were going so well. We were making out and I thought things were getting heated, but when I straddled his lap he pushed me away and told me he couldn’t do it.”

“Cara, sweetie, he told you that he was scared. He’s been hurt before, and he’s scared of getting his heart broke again.”

“It still hurts, he seemed so repulsed by me. Maybe it’s not so much that he doesn’t want to give his heart to anyone, maybe he just doesn’t want to give his heart to me.”

Mandy closed the laptop and took it from her. “Okay, that’s enough. I can’t keep watching you do this to yourself. She pulled back the comforter and pulled her friend out of bed. “We’re going out tonight,” she said sternly.

“Absolutely not.” Cara replied.

Mandy literally stomped her foot and pointed to the bathroom. “Well not like that we’re not. Go take a shower.”

Cara stood there, baffled, just staring at her best friend.

“Cara, I will literally remove your clothes and wash you down if I have to.”

Cara started to protest again, but was swiftly interrupted.

“Shower, now!” Mandy’s eyes pierced through Cara’s. And Cara knew she wasn’t bluffing.

“Alright, geez.” she paused, “I kinda like this sassy side of you.”

It took another half an hour and even more threats to get Cara into the dark blue jeans and black lacy top that hugged her and showed off her voluptuous, hour glass figure. Fortunately, Cara was smart enough to know to go with heels to complete the look.

As soon as Mandy pulled into The Hawthorne, Cara started hyperventilating. “What if he’s here?” She asked.

“That’s what I’m hoping for.” Mandy winked before stepping out of the car.

Cara scanned the room as soon as she stepped inside. She didn’t see any signs of Michael or his friends and she breathed a sigh of relief.

She went to the bar and ordered a long island iced tea. If she was going to dance her pain away she was going to need something stronger than wine tonight.

Mandy and Cara both knew it was going to be a good night when the band took the stage and the first song they played was “Bright Lights,” by Gary Clark Jr.

Cara stood up after taking Mandy’s hand who was pulling her to the dance floor, she let out a chuckle that made it’s way to the ears of a gentleman, in a black button down shirt and matching fedora, sitting at the other end of the bar. He quickly averted his gaze to the sound. He knew it in an instant, he’d know that sound anywhere because the person who made such a beautiful noise was carrying his heart, which had suddenly seemed to stop beating as he watched the woman he loves dance so care-freely. He looked around, noticing the looks on the men’s faces as they watched her move. What was this feeling bubbling in his stomach, jealousy? Why should he be jealous, he was the one that ran out on her. The longer he sat there the sadder he felt. He felt elated as he watched her turn the third guy to approach her away. Suddenly, his head was clearer than it had been in weeks, and as the band started to sing “Dive,” by Ed Sheeran he knew what he needed to do.

He walked up behind her, placing his hands on her hips and pulling her back into him. He leaned forward so she could see it was him. She went still, not sure exactly what he wanted from her.

He whispered in her ear, “I’ve been watching all of these men watching you, the way you move so sensually,” he said as he started to sway with her, his hips so close to hers. “It’s been driving me crazy.” Unable to control his feelings any longer he grabbed her by her shoulders and spun her around to face him. “Cara, I’m an idiot. I can’t bare the thought of some other man taking you home, running his hands all over you, I want to be the only one who gets that privilege. I’m sorry, baby.”

The way Michael was looking at her made her shiver, never in her life had anyone ever looked at her with so much desire, and as she saw a tear slide down his cheek, she knew how much he really loved her. She stepped slowly closer to him, running her small, delicate hands over his broad chest and shoulders, feeling the hard muscles beneath his soft exterior react to her soft touch.

“I don’t want anyone else.” She whispered before inhaling the masculine scent of sandalwood and something that could only be described as him.

She looked over at Mandy and she didn’t even need to tell her that she was going home with Michael. Mandy waved her off as she continued to flirt with the rock climbing instructor she had met about a month ago.

Michael led Cara out to his back deck, the moonlight was shining through the trees, casting shadows of their branches on the ground. Michael had prepared for this night, and he was determined not to screw it up this time, so he pressed play on the playlist and watched her eyes as Marc Broussard’s “I’ll Love You More Than You Ever Know” started to play. A shit eating grin spread across his face as he watched her pupils dilate and heard the sigh that escaped her lips.

He walked up to her, almost close enough to touch her, almost. “Have you forgotten how observant I am, my dear? I know what the sound of a dirty guitar riff does to you. That’s why I made an entire playlist of them. I’m going to make it so that every time you hear these songs all you can think about is me,” he paused licking his lips and looking down at his shoes before returning his wanton gaze to hers and continuing, “And the things I’m going to do to you.”

Her breath caught in her throat, white, hot pleasure was coursing through her body and he hadn’t even touched her yet.

Michael had always been a strong man but as he watched her bite her bottom lip and look at him with those deep blue, longing eyes he felt weak in the knees.

He wrapped one of his strong arms around her waist and drew her into him, kissing her so passionately even the moon couldn’t help but blush.

He slowly removed her clothing, pausing to kiss each area of exposed skin, “You’re so beautiful,” he whispered as his lips grazed down her neck and along her collar bone, working his way down until she was standing naked, except for the black stilettos on her feet. She started to feel a little self conscious under his gaze but when he kissed her again she realized how greedy he was for her, and never in her life had she felt so sexy.

She stepped back out of his grasp, a look of confusion etched upon his face. She bit her lip again, aware of the affect it had on him. “Have you forgotten how observant I am, my dear?” She teased. “This is hardly fair, I’m naked and you’re fully clothed.

He held his arms out, inviting her to take off his shirt and she tortured him by unbuttoning it as slowly as possible. She slid her hands beneath the collar of his shirt, running her hands firmly along his shoulders, taking the shirt off with her movements. He hung his long arms, allowing the soft material to glide down his skin. She stepped closer to him, stopping to trace the outline of his shoulder tattoo. She heard his breath quicken and she smiled seductively up at him.

He went to remove his hat, but she stopped him. “You can leave your hat on,” she said, arching an eyebrow.

Michael picked her up and brought her inside. He went slowly, taking his time, and she praised him until she could no longer form words other than the sound of his name. She let her moans show him the right spots he was hitting. He was patient with her, never rushing her pleasure, stopping to place kisses all along her body, constantly roaming his hands all over her, like he just couldn’t get enough of her. He would look at her, eyes closed, head drawn back, mouth open, body writhing, it was better than anything he had imagined.

She melted into every single one of his touches, and he responded to each snap of her hips. The fire between them continued to grow as the minutes passed, neither one of them wanting to let go, both of them basking in the magic, mind blowing, love making between them. Her pants were music to his ears and one more stroke of his large hand down her spine had her coming undone.

She felt so high afterwards she couldn’t help the giggles that escaped her mouth before collapsing next to him. He smiled at her, stroking a strand of hair behind her ear.

“Wow.” she said.

“Yeah, wow.” he replied. “I’m sorry I was such an idiot.”

She kissed him chastely, stroking his cheek. “I was afraid that maybe you didn’t want me.”

“Didn’t want you?” He asked, leaning up on one elbow and looking directly into her eyes. “Oh, Cara, how could you think such a thing?”

“Well you were so quick to dismiss me. I thought maybe I repelled you.”

A look of hurt etched across his face. “I never meant to do that to you.”

“I know,” she reassured him.

“I was afraid of getting hurt again, afraid to put myself out there, but like I said I was an idiot. You’re worth it sweetheart, you’re so worth it.”

“I promise to never hurt you,” she paused, bringing his hand up to her mouth and kissing his palm. “I’m not perfect, and there may be times that I disappoint you, or accidentally hurt your feelings, but I promise, your heart is safe in my hands, I couldn’t bare the thought of breaking it.”

He kissed her again, falling even deeper in love, and showing her all over again.
