That Really Burns My Biscuits! #4

If you read my post Fell On Black Days, you know I’ve been dealing with some serious stress and depression lately.

I have gotten to the point where I make jokes about the situation, because comedic relief helps and I’d rather laugh than cry at this point. I’m tired of crying, especially over a boss who doesn’t have my best interests at heart. I’m done, which lead to my poem Puppet Master.

Well, now she’s been calling me EVERY DAY, to apologize, but the thing is I am so hurt and disappointed, that even though I may forgive her, it doesn’t change anything. And I told her that. I asked her if she breaks a plate and then says sorry will the plate be put back together. Of course, she said no, and then I asked her if she understood. (Her words were very spiteful, and I’ve never felt so belittled in my entire life.)

She is now calling me to complain about one of my staff members, which leads me to my rant!

Ya know what really burns my biscuits?

Hypocritical statements!

My boss now calls to complain about one of my staff members, let’s call her Carol. She states that Carol doesn’t do her job, and when she goes to complain to her boss about Carol, nothing is done about it. She said and I quote “I’m tired of people around here not getting in trouble for not doing their jobs.”

To which I replied “Well, isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black.”

My boss delegates every detail of her job to other people. I’m not joking. I have no clue what this woman does all day, although; I have caught her many times shopping online at Talbot’s.

Her job duties are to write grants, hold monthly staff meetings, oversee the department, approve timesheets and appropriate leave, do change of statuses when one of us is due a raise, and run VITA.

She doesn’t do any of it. I run VITA, which is our volunteer income tax assistance program. I keep up with my volunteers throughout the year to keep them wanting to come back, I troubleshoot any issues, I deal with irate costumers, I answer the tax payers questions, I create flyers and newspaper advertisements, and I try and recruit new volunteers. And I do all of this on top of my regular job. My boss also asks me to send emails for her, and has asked me to run personal errands. She has done this so much that I have her middle name and social security number memorized! Well shame on me for allowing her to take advantage of me, but I will not be her doormat any longer. I told her last year that I was no longer writing grants for her, and I even went above her head when she asked me after I told her no. Now she has another staff member doing that for her. She also has a Director of another department approving timesheets, leave, and making her change of statuses.

We have staff meetings, maybe 3 times a year.

UGH!!!!! It’s so frustrating! I really, really, really hope she quits. Which I keep trying to persuade her to do. I mean, her significant other makes an obscene amount of money, and he wants her to stay home so he can whisk her away to the Bahamas whenever he wants. She’s an idiot for not taking him up on his offer.

What about you? Do you hate hypocritical statements and behavior?

I am so sorry you are going through all of this mess. Dealing with hypocricial people is the worst! I have a person in my life who I must interact with on a regular basis and it is torture!

I know what you mean!! I have two people at work that is exactly like that too….I have learned to say no and set boundaries lately and they hated it…they still try to talk to me like I was a teenager when I started and I do not like that ….I have learned to stand up and say no to them….they can do their own tasks themselves as even though I help to do their tasks, they complain that I don’t do a perfect job!!

Hi Kristian! I can well understand your situation because I had to face a lady boss of this type a couple of years ago. I got respite from her only when I quit my job. Of course, I am not suggesting that you should quit too, but I feel that you can learn to become indifferent to her. Don’t take her attitude too seriously. Develop some new hobbies. Travel more often. I guess it keep you inspired and motivated. Good luck!

Thank you! I am definitely keeping my options open. I was actually offered another job, but I had to turn it down due to financial reasons. Traveling is hard because my husband has to have dialysis. It’s not impossible though, & we do make it work. Unfortunately, I’m not able to take any significant amount of time off until April, especially if my boss does quit, but it gives me something to look forward to! In the meantime, I’ll keep doing my real job, ignoring her outlandish behavior, & leaning on friends! ❤ I’m sorry to hear you had to deal with this too, but I’m happy you were able to remove yourself from the situation! 😊

So sorry to hear about your personal circumstances at home. I pray that God gives you the strength to handle everything with ease. Life can be very tricky at times, but keeping a positive outlook helps. Keep us updated about how things go at your workplace. Yeah, I’m glad that I could change my previous workplace. But then I happened to relocate to a different city to do so.
You take care and best wishes!

When I read your post ‘Puppet Master’, I thought I smelled something burning. I immediately feared for your biscuits. I knew you were struggling with the situation at work, but this post gives a great deal more insight into the issues. Take it from someone who has been there, you are definitely being taken advantage of. There is nothing worse than having your own work ethic, professionalism, and generosity used against you this way. I loved your plate analogy. Sometimes there is no getting back to where things were, and even if you could, sometimes it is obvious you shouldn’t. Here for you (like that means anything)! ❤

Yeah, I often get taken advantage of once people learn how kind I am, but sometimes it takes a true bully to make me realize it. I was hurt because even though I knew I was going above & beyond & doing far more than I should (like her job duties,) I thought she appreciated me. She bought me gifts, would tell me she didnt know what she’d do without me, etc… Then she started letting her true sides show. She started taking credit for my work, she stopped telling me how much she adored me, & then in front of my entire staff, she pointed her finger in my face (a big no no with me,) told me that no one at the agency liked me, & talked down to me as if I were a child being scolded. I was shocked, confused, & hurt. I went to her boss & told her I would not tolerate being talked to like that EVER again!!
Yeah, my pain quickly turned to anger, but I refuse to let her get me down. Thank you, Brad! ❤❤ It really does mean something! I know you can’t be here physically, or intervene in anyway, but I’m so glad I have you in my corner. I’m glad I can turn to you for advice or just knowing you’ll listen if I need to vent. It’s nice to know someone is concerned about my biscuits! Haha! Seriously though, I appreciate you!! ❤❤

It’s that betrayal from a person you didn’t expect it from is the most damaging and takes the most time to heal. As far as delegating bosses, been there before! They take the credit, you do the work.

Another burning biscuit thread!! Woohoo! I’ve missed these! Yeah, I think we all hate hypocritical statements. Your boss sounds like a real pain in the black kettle. Haha.

I hung with this guy one time at a buffet. He was pretty overweight at the time. He pointed to a larger guy walking to the buffet and said, “Look at that fat slob.” Haha. I mean, I had to laugh at the hypocrisy. Since then, the guy’s lost weight and I never heard him say anything else like that. Heck, it may have been a joke to beging with. Some people say crazy stuff just to get a laugh.

    Great post!

Job or no job, I’d strongly suggest giving your own business or freelancing a part-time shot so you don’t feel stuck. Office politics can wear your awesome talent down. And I am sincerely praying for your hubby’s health. Your plate is too full for all that. There are far too many people in this world who care about you and love you as compared to that one tiny individual no matter how much she is grown. Pls do take very good care of yourself. Love you ❤️
