Treading Water

I lift my dress up to my knees and start to tread the water.

I stick in my toes, back out they go at the feel of the frigid temperature.

I brace myself and begin to walk a slow and steady pace,

my legs are numb but still I walk, invading the waters space.

The lake is calm but calls to me, surely water is my element.

The lake is up to my knees, I begin to freeze, and for a moment I am hesitant.

I can’t resist the urge, no longer caring about the dress,

I dive right in and sink my head and let the waves caress,

both body and mind, it feels so sublime here in the waters depth.

Thoughts of you consume my head, tread with me, won’t you friend?

I want to feel your energy, share with me your thoughts.

I promise I won’t judge you, stop giving me what you’re not.

Friendship is something to cherish, you said those words yourself,

Can we get back to where we were? Don’t hang me on a shelf.

Give me raw, visceral emotion, give me something real.

Remind me of who I am again, please just help me feel.

I need your light to guide me, don’t let me sink in shallow water,

Let’s tread the unknown, put fears aside, and onward we can saunter.

Reminds me of walking out into the ocean. You have so much power before it you’re under it’s power.
