Soulful Sunday #11 – Taking My Time

I am enjoying the sunshine right now, I have to get it while I can, it’s the first time it hasn’t rained in weeks.

I have been learning to make more time for myself, to just slow down and simply breathe. The dishes that need to be put away can wait an hour, and the iced tea I need to make will still taste just as good when I make it later today opposed to right now,

I am starting to feel better after such an emotionally draining week has left me feeling low and heartbroken. It feels good to laugh, relax, and spend some time doing the things I love the most!

I have discovered a new playlist on Spotify called Soul, Funk, Blues, Afrobeat, Jazz, Ska, & Groove! The playlist itself is hit or miss. I put it on shuffle and some of the songs make me dance while others have me hitting the skip button, but I have found a few songs I really like! One of my favorite jazz songs is “Take Five,” by Dave Brubeck, and this playlist has a reggae version by a band called King Tubby! I am so in love with it, it has had me dancing around my my house all weekend!!

I also saw a video of Prince playing The Smooth Blues that I had never seen before, and well….. let’s just say I needed a cold shower after watching it. There’s just something about the sound of that guitar I find so incredibly sexy. It’s one of those sounds my body just instinctively reacts to. I can’t help but move to it.

I just love music and it’s power to make me get lost in the moment, to let my hair down and dance freely. In those moments it doesn’t matter where I am or who is around, I just dance  without a care in the world. These are some of my favorite moments in all the world!

Dance freely, my friends!

In addition to dancing around my house I have also been baking! I LOVE to bake, and it’s been a while. My husband requested an apple pie before we went on vacation so I decided to make him one this weekend and it instantly lifted my spirits!! Not just the art of baking itself, but the way my house smells while the pie is baking in the oven, and then the satisfaction of tasting my creation, the way the crumb topping melts in my mouth, the combination of flavors enhancing the taste of the apple, and the buttery, flaky crust that holds it all together. It bring me comfort and joy.

I also made plans to spend some time with Amanda this Friday, so I now have something to look forward to! I am also extremely grateful for the friendships I have. Brandy reached out to me after reading my latest blog post about how I have been struggling, and I appreciate her and her friendship so much! I am truly blessed with people who offer emotional support. I couldn’t make it through life without them!

I am raising a glass to time spent more slowly, to deep breaths, dancing freely, embracing life, more laughter, more time spent relaxing with family and friends, and more time doing the things I love, such as baking and of course, writing!

Join me won’t you?

Love & life lessons,

Kristian
