Throwback Thursday #5

One of these weeks, I’ll get these posted on time! Anyway, I decided to go with another fictional story. I wrote this one three years ago as another prompt challenge, and it’s perfect for this time of year!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Love & life lessons,

Kristian

Bewitched

Cara walked out of the kitchen donning her red mini skirt, orange turtle neck sweater, knee-high socks, and Mary Jane pumps.

“How do I look?” She asked Michael.

“Like every school boy’s dream.” Michael made his way to his wife, kissing her chastely.

“Are you sure you don’t want to come tonight?” She asked. “It’s going to be so boring without you.”

Michael chuckled. “I’d like to, but I really need to start this project for work. I only have a week before it’s due.”

Cara sighed. “Should I cancel?” She started pacing. “I think I’m going to cancel. I mean, I could just stay here and watch horror movies and be available if you need me.”

Michael grabbed Cara’s shoulders. “Cara, your staff wants to take you out to celebrate. You’re their new boss, and they love you. Plus, it would look really pathetic if the Scooby gang showed up without Velma.”

“You’re right.” She smiled. “And Brandy would probably kill me if I canceled.”

“I’d be more worried about Matt. He would be so disappointed.” Michael kissed her on the cheek. “Go have fun, my love. I have a surprise waiting for you outside.”

Cara giggled, “Of course you do,” she looped her arm through his. “How did I get so lucky?”

Michael had rented the Mystery Machine, instructing the driver to pick up Cara’s colleagues first.

Cara entered the van and sat next to Matt, who was dressed as Shaggy. She praised Brandy and Jacob on their costumes before patting Charlie on the head.

“Who’s a good boy?” “Jinkies, Shaggy, I think he wants a Scooby snack.”

“Very funny,” the man dressed as Scooby-Doo pouted.

The gang pulled up to the pub, and Cara tensed at the sight of the parking lot full of cars and people. Everyone commented on the Mystery Machine and applauded as the gang, including Scooby, hopped out of the van.

They stood just inside the door, scanning the room for a vacant table. Matt took Cara’s hand, sensing her uneasiness and also calming his own nerves. They made their way over to a corner table tucked in next to a jukebox.

Brandy sat next to Cara. “I’m not a huge fan of big crowds either. Let’s order some cocktails and try to let loose tonight, yeah?”

Cara smiled at her. “I love that plan.”

Cara insisted on buying the first round as a way to thank her subordinates for all of their support over the past few months. She ordered them each a long island iced tea and toasted them for being so supportive as she made this transition into upper management.

As the night continued on, Cara felt her body relaxing, and she was laughing, getting lost in conversation, and tapping her foot to the beat of the music.

It wasn’t long before she and Brandy got lost in the beat and danced on the dance floor, careful not to venture too far from their table.

Cara’s eyes locked with a man sitting at the bar. He was dressed all in black, including a black cloak. His eyes were hidden by a masquerade mask, but she could see the curve of his smile. He looked Gothic and wickedly handsome and had her under his spell. Then again, Cara had always been easily seduced by the kings of darkness.

She realized she had caught his eye and flashed him a smile as she continued to sway her hips in time to the rhythm.

Cara didn’t care that her colleagues were looking at her like she had lost her mind, perhaps she had, but she just couldn’t shake the unabashed stare from the warlock at the bar. She decided to play hard to get and turned her attention back to Brandy as the ladies danced.

She found herself feeling more disappointed than she should when she turned her attention back to the bar and found that her warlock was no longer sitting there. That was until she felt a pair of hands grab her hips.

“I see my spell worked,” the warlock whispered in her ear.

“Yes,” Cara replied before licking her lips. “You have bewitched me.”

The warlock spun her around, placed his hand on her back, and pulled her close to him, swaying her around the room.

“How many drinks have you had tonight?”

“Only a couple,” she replied. “I’m much more intoxicated on you than alcohol.”

He flashed her a seductive smile. “I thought Velma was afraid of monsters?”

“That’s just a front.” She replied, bringing his ear close to her mouth before whispering, “I’ve always had a thing for the dark ones.”

The warlock shivered. “Clever girl. I always knew Velma was the freak.”

“It’s always the quiet ones.” She replied.

“I’ve been watching you dance all night. I knew as soon as I saw you I had to have you. I haven’t been able to keep my eyes off you.”

Cara turned back around and pressed her back against his chest, swaying her hips against his, causing him to let out a guttural moan.

“Enough!” He said sternly, startling her. “You’re under my spell tonight.”

“Yes,” she replied, turning back around to face him.

He raised a knowing eyebrow at her.

“Yes, sir,” she corrected herself. “I’m under your spell.”

She placed her hands on his shoulders, slowly moving closer to him until her chest touched his. “Take me home, and I’ll do as you command.”

He grabbed her hand and went running towards the door.

Cara broke character, chuckling at his eagerness. “I need to inform my colleagues that I’m leaving first.”

Her colleagues showed concern, especially Brandy, but Cara reassured them that she knew what she was doing.

She sauntered her way back to her warlock. “I thought you had a project due?”

Michael chuckled before removing his cloak and mask and revealing his identity.

“I do, but this is much more fun.”

Cara turned and waved to her colleagues before leaving with her husband.

Brandy turned to the rest of the group. “I need to find me a man like that.”

“You and me both.” Charlie retorted.

You had me at Velma. You should wear that as a costume sometime. I can be Shaggy easy. Green Tee, jeans, scraggly beard.
