When Ball Meets Bat

It’s that feeling when the boys of summer

take the field

pitcher of the opposing team

on the mound

your favorite batter at bat

the sun on your face

the glorious aroma

of concession food

wafting through the air

there’s nothing like it

stadium atmosphere

It’s that high fly ball

that grabs you

grips you

excites you

you can’t take your eyes off it

you knew from the sound

there’s nothing like it

when ball meets bat

It’s that slide into home

that hits you

waves of celebratory joy

lift you off your feet

and you scream his name

the hero of the minute

the sounds of applause

and cheers

a universal noise

there’s nothing like it

when fans unite

It’s that backdrop

of buildings

and skyline

against the field of green

that compels you to stare

and brings a sense of comfort

like something familiar

everything is as new as the day

yet remains the same

there’s nothing like it

the love of the game

I love the flow and form you used here. Wonderfully imagined with such vivid senses. The sights, the smells, the sounds of the Great American pastime. I love how the final lines of each stanza bring a bit of closure and lead into the next verse. Well written, my friend!
