My Burning Heart

me

Can’t you feel my burning heart –

leaping through my bosom

bleeding on pages?

Can’t you feel the rain –

my tears, trying to reach you

saying, “I’m here?”

Compassion is in my nature

I have been here all along

maybe it is you, who needs to address your fears.

I weep with the sky

I too have dark clouds

but I do not fret, for the sun always comes out.

I am not the definition of beautiful

I am deeply flawed

my looks fail, but my heart has it all.

Full of love and passion

art and pain –

never quite good enough, never quite sane.

Still I keep giving

it is simply who I am

I refuse to apologize for what you don’t understand.

I cry and I laugh

for I see and I feel

maybe you are just petrified –

Because

I Am

Real.
