The Sparkle

friendship-partnership-quote

Last month, for my birthday, my best friends gave me one of the best birthdays I’ve had in a very long time. I spent days talking about the cakes Amanda made for me, the decorations, the party, all of it! I was so moved and I felt so loved.

A few days later I received a package from Arizona. Christen had put all of this time and thought into my gift. Each piece was carefully selected or hand made, and represented me. She attached a note to each package explaining the meaning behind the gifts, and I was moved to tears by it.

Neil chuckled and said you ladies are like nonsexual lesbians. This made me laugh, and he meant no harm by it, in fact; I think he was kind of in awe of how close we are.

This lead to a discussion of the differences between men and women, which I’ll get to in a later post, or maybe a topic on the podcast, but anyway, Neil has a point.

I’m not ashamed to admit how much I love these women. Nothing compares to the love I have with Neil, but I would lay my life on the line for Christen and Amanda. I relish in their happiness. I cry when they’re sad or in pain. I genuinely love and adore them. They are my sisters, they are a part of me. I couldn’t imagine life without them.

I belong to an empathy group on Facebook, and I saw a post there that spoke of how people refer to falling in love as “The spark,” but there isn’t a term for that instant connection with friends. There are some people you meet and you just know, you feel that click and you just know they are going to be an important part of your life. It’s not romance, but it goes beyond friendship. It’s more than just a random phone call to say hello or a lunch date. It’s watching each others children grow, and loving each others children. It’s shared tears over heartaches and losses. It’s sitting with your best friend on the couch and doing absolutely nothing while she grieves the loss of her mother. They referred to this as “The Sparkle.” I love that!!

So I want to thank Amanda and Christen for giving me that sparkle. They are seriously the best friends I could have ever hoped for, and I am so thankful that they are and always will be a part of my life!

“Every brunette needs a blonde best friend.” How blessed am I to have two?

Who are your sparkles?

Love & life lessons,

Kristian
