Wild Geese

wild geese.jpeg

My momma had this deep love for wild geese

that I never quite understood

until one day

while I was listening

to the earth cry

and shaking violently

I heard the geese squawk

and I looked up

and witnessed

the sun painting their wings

and the earth grew still

as did my mind –

it was then I realized

my momma is still teaching me –

she raised me with enough sense

to understand the beauty

of sitting still

and the importance

of love

to appreciate the geese

flying home again

And from where I sit –

amidst the quiet

I can still hear

my momma’s voice

and the sun

telling me

everything is going to be alright

for tomorrow is a new day

and all I have to do

is keep moving forward

And from where I sit –

I know I have the sense

to appreciate

everything under the sun

and learn from the geese

that my heart

will continue to grow

back from where its been
