Small Gestures

raindrops

I believe there is great meaning

behind small gestures−

Paying for a strangers coffee

holding the door open for people

overtipping

and smiling, even when I don’t feel like it

Chasing a child’s ball down the sidewalk

and throwing it back−

watching as their eyes light up.

Paying compliments

and being kind−

especially when it’s difficult.

People notice−

and appreciate

I know I do−

when it’s done to or for me.

Small gestures−

a warm smile

politeness−

a simple “How are you?”

For a moment

life doesn’t seem so heavy−

it’s a candle burning on Christmas Eve

it’s a bit of Gene Kelly dancing in the rain.
