5 Things, Part 3

Welcome back!

Yesterday I shared the second part of the 5 things challenge. If you missed parts 1 & 2, you can find them in the links below. 🙂

I was inspired to do this post by Melanie, author of Sparks From a Combustible Mind. I put my own twist on this challenge and decided to do 5 of each category:

Yesterday’s topic was movies, so today’s topic is songs.

Thank you, Melanie, for the inspiration!!

5 Songs You Should Listen to if You Want to Know me better:

music quote

  1. In The Blood by John Mayer

This song, oh baby! I feel like John Mayer saw right through to my soul and wrote the words I had written there. I was driving the very first time I heard this song, and I had to pull over and just listen. I still get goosebumps when I listen to this song, especially the first stanza.

“How much of my mother has my mother left in me?
How much of my love will be insane to some degree?
And what about this feeling that I’m never good enough?
Will it wash out in the water, or is it always in the blood?”

My heart is beating just as fast, and I have had to close my eyes and just listen before I finished writing this sentence.

2, Let it Be by the Beatles

This is one of my favorite songs of all time, and a great reminder for me. I try to live my life by this. I tend to overthink and over analyze everything, to the point that I drive myself crazy! I also can’t talk about the songs that best represent me without including the Beatles. I have loved them for longer than I can remember, and they have been a huge part of my life. I have a “Let it Be” quote hanging by my desk at work, reminding me that sometimes that’s just the best thing to do. I also really want a “Let it Be” tattoo.

And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

3. I Won’t Back Down by Tom Petty

I have been through a lot in my short time on this Earth. I have endured so much heartache, the crippling kind that has left me in bed for days on end. I have been abused, taken advantage of, endured great loss, and faced many other obstacles, and you know what? I have overcome every single one of those heartbreaks that I was sure was going to kill me. So now, I kind of scoff at life’s curve balls. I refuse to give up or back down. I am going to go far in this life and achieve great things! I have to! All of these trials happened for a reason, and I can’t allow it all to have been for nothing!

Well, I know what’s right
I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin’ me around
But I’ll stand my ground
And I won’t back down

4. Candy by The Presidents of the United States of America

This song is fun and upbeat with little bits of naughtiness through and through. Well, that’s pretty much me in a nut shell, and unless you know me really well, you probably would have never guessed that. 😉 I only look sweet and innocent. Haha. I mean, I guess I am what you would call sweet, if you ask my friend Amanda, she will tell you I’m her angel. But she will also tell you about the time I made her jaw drop to the floor and say

“Wow! My angel can dance!” Like dirty dancing, dance. 😀

Now the devil, she must be a dentist
With deep jawbreaker eyes
Red rope hair, gumdrop lips,
Cotton candy thighs

5. Sweet Leaf by Black Sabbath

Yes I smoke cannabis. It helps with my anxiety and insomnia, plus I love the way it feels. Taking a shower is like 10 times better when you’re high Lol. Anyway, this is something else most people probably wouldn’t guess, unless you know me really well. For me, just like  Ozzy says, it introduced me to my mind. Think what you will about this herb, but I truly believe in it’s benefits, not just THC, but also CBD. As I mentioned above, I’m an over thinker, so I’ve done a lot of research on it.

When I first met you, didn’t realize
I can’t forget you, for your surprise
you introduced me, to my mind
And left me wanting, you and your kind

Well there you have it. The 5 songs you should listen to if you want to get to know me better.

Have you heard any of these songs? What is your opinion? What songs should I listen to in order to get to know you better?

Love & life lessons,

Kristian

  1. Sorry I didn’t see this one yesterday, sometimes my notifications are messed up I think! Anyway, I know “Let It Be” and “I Won’t Back Down”, and I’ve heard of Black Sabbath, but didn’t know that tune. I also didn’t know the other two. Awesome share though! 🙂

My five (in no particular order):

    Angie Baby – Helen Reddy
At 17 – Janis Ian (this one was on my own post)
Main Street – Bob Seger (this one too was on my own post)
    Martha – Meatloaf
    The Stranger – Billy Joel

Now some of these have described me since I was a teenager. Some are ‘my story’ (even if they are sung by men about women…mine would be sung by me about men I’ve known). I have dozens of “songs in the key of my life” though. Thanks again for passing along the torch for that five exercise and making it unique! 🙂
