One For The Ladies

This post is about the female reproductive system & menstruation, so guys, if this grosses you out, please don’t read any further. If you do happen to read it, please pass this information along to your mothers, sisters, wives, girlfriends, and all of the females in your lives.

I follow Sunny Anderson on Instagram, if you are not sure who she is, she is a celebrity cook on ‘The Kitchen,” one of my favorite cooking shows! I absolutely love all of the cook’s on this show, but Sunny is tied with Jeff Mauro (The Sandwich King) for my favorite!

Sunny is just a delight, she’s funny, sweet, smart, and she can cook her ass off!!

Now that you know who she is, I highly recommend you follow her on social media to gain valuable insight, recipes, and gorgeous views from her freshly stained deck (which she did all by herself!! You go, girl!!)

While browsing through her Instagram stories I came across her post about organic tampons. Sunny had never heard of organic tampons, and until I saw her post, neither had I, but living in a rural area, I’m always the last to know about these kinds of things.

Anyway, I started doing some research after seeing her post about a brand of tampons that stated they were chlorine free!!

Wait!!! Hold on a minute, I didn’t realize the products I have been using for YEARS had chlorine in them, but sure enough, they do!!

Ladies, you wouldn’t ingest chlorine, but they expect us to put it into our bodies vaginally? Really?!?! We have to do better! We deserve better! The reason chlorine is added to tampons and pads is to make them white. Who thought that was a good idea? Who said, “We can’t offer feminine products that are brown in color and expect women to use them, we must make them white!” That’s absurd!!! The less amount of chemicals we put into our bodies, the better!!

Of course, like all things that are healthier for you, organic menstruation products are more expensive. Which is also absurd, but it’s something we need on a regular basis, so of course it’s expensive. The almighty dollar is what’s important, not a person’s health. Ugh, don’t even get me started on health care, that’s a whole other tangent I can go on!!

Anyway, you can read more about the chemicals put in feminine products below, I encourage all of my female followers to do more research about the chemicals you are putting into your body, and if you’re a male reader, thank you for caring enough to take the time to read about a subject that might turn your stomach, but you love the women in your life enough to want to spread the word to keep them safe!! The world needs more men like you!!

Chem Fatale Fact Sheet

The website above even has a cool little fact sheet that you can take with you when you shop, so you can avoid certain brands.

I would also like to state that our bodies really are magical, lol. Not only can we make babies, but our vagina’s have their own cleansing properties. Did you know that? I encourage you to do away with douche’s and other feminine hygiene products you really don’t need. Some mild soap and water in the shower is really all you need to stay so fresh and so clean. Internally, let your va jay jay do her own thing, let nature take its course. You can really cause harm to her PH balance by douching and adding powders & deodorants that don’t belong down there.

Learn your bodies, ladies, do your research, take care of your entire self.

Love & life lessons,

quality of life

Yuck! (just kidding). As a music teacher at an all-girls high school, I’ve learned a lot about this process and its products, and it’s still a funny, awkward situation after 16 years. When a student gives me that look as she’s exiting the classroom, I just nod my head, and let her do her thing. Luckily, no one has really taken advantage of class absences because of these biological priorities. Men have it way easy.

Yes, it’s a natural part of being a woman. Thank you for being understanding, those girls are lucky to have male teacher who “gets it.” I’m not saying men don’t have their share of hardships, but overall, I have to agree with you!! 🙂 Thank you for reading!

Interesting, thanks for sharing… I have several friends who use the “diva cup”. I have not tried it, but it also seems like a good alternative. Listed as “1 here:
