These are a few of my favorite things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens….wait, that’s been done!

I have been on a roller coaster ride of emotions lately. I’ve spoke of how my heart is broken for a friend who is feeling broken and confused. I wish I had some magic words that would bring her comfort and let her know that no matter what she decides, things will be okay. The best I can do is just let her know that I’m here for her, and I’ll continue to be here no matter what she decides.

I’ve spoken of another friend who is losing her uncle to cancer, and how my heart just aches for her mom. It’s not fun to watch a loved one suffer. I’ve been there, and I wish I could alleviate the entire family’s pain.

Tonight, I’m not sure why, but I especially miss my mom. Maybe it’s because when I’m feeling low, it’s her hugs I long for the most.

A friend gave me some great advice after my insurmountable loss. She told me to allow myself to feel whatever comes, to not grow numb to the pain, to embrace it and every emotion from here on out. It’s advice that I have heeded, and am grateful for, and continue to pass along to others, because it’s so important friends, to feel and embrace the pain! The pain only makes us appreciate the love so much more, and what are we if we have not love?

I have made a list of things that make me happy, and it’s something I enjoy when I’m feeling down, because even if it’s just for a moment, it reminds me of just how blessed I truly am.

I have written 3 pages worth of items in my journal, but I thought I would start sharing some of these with you too, a few at a time.

Being captivated by the moon

I took the garbage out tonight, just as the moon was rising, this is not the picture I took tonight, however; it is one of my favorite photos! Anyway, on the walk back to my front porch I stopped, and just stared in awe at our beautiful moon.

Baking

There’s an art to baking, and I really enjoy it. I have started making my own recipes of cupcakes, and every single one has been a hit! Friends, family, and colleagues often request them, and I really don’t like to brag, but I have to admit, I surprise myself whenever I eat one.

I love everything about baking! The freedom to express my creativity, the way it makes my house smell, and savoring my creation.

I have all of the ingredients to make lemon cupcakes, so I think I’m going to make them soon, but now that I’ve written this, I have to be sure I take some to my friend, Amanda. She might de-friend me otherwise, Lol.

Porches

I have written posts about my parents front porch, and how many special memories I have of that porch. My next house is going to have a porch just like that! My favorite memories are time spent on the porch! I don’t know what it is exactly, but there is just something about porches I’m drawn to.

I saw this picture as I was browsing through Pinterest, (I’m really starting to think I need a pintervention) and I instantly fell in love with those porches! Gahh!! I just love those porches!!

I will save the self discovery questions for another post as I’ve already written more than I intended. Thank you for letting my soul bleed.
