These are a few of my favorite things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens….wait, that’s been done!

soundofmusic

I have been on a roller coaster ride of emotions lately. I’ve spoke of how my heart is broken for a friend who is feeling broken and confused. I wish I had some magic words that would bring her comfort and let her know that no matter what she decides, things will be okay. The best I can do is just let her know that I’m here for her, and I’ll continue to be here no matter what she decides.

I’ve spoken of another friend who is losing her uncle to cancer, and how my heart just aches for her mom. It’s not fun to watch a loved one suffer. I’ve been there, and I wish I could alleviate the entire family’s pain.

Tonight, I’m not sure why, but I especially miss my mom. Maybe it’s because when I’m feeling low, it’s her hugs I long for the most.

A friend gave me some great advice after my insurmountable loss. She told me to allow myself to feel whatever comes, to not grow numb to the pain, to embrace it and every emotion from here on out. It’s advice that I have heeded, and am grateful for, and continue to pass along to others, because it’s so important friends, to feel and embrace the pain! The pain only makes us appreciate the love so much more, and what are we if we have not love?

I have made a list of things that make me happy, and it’s something I enjoy when I’m feeling down, because even if it’s just for a moment, it reminds me of just how blessed I truly am.

I have written 3 pages worth of items in my journal, but I thought I would start sharing some of these with you too, a few at a time.

Being captivated by the moon

I took the garbage out tonight, just as the moon was rising, this is not the picture I took tonight, however; it is one of my favorite photos! Anyway, on the walk back to my front porch I stopped, and just stared in awe at our beautiful moon.

Baking

whale cupcakes

Photo Credit: Kristian Weigman. Homemade vanilla cupcakes with homemade vanilla buttercream icing. I made these for Grandma’s 80th birthday this past July.

There’s an art to baking, and I really enjoy it. I have started making my own recipes of cupcakes, and every single one has been a hit! Friends, family, and colleagues often request them, and I really don’t like to brag, but I have to admit, I surprise myself whenever I eat one.

I love everything about baking! The freedom to express my creativity, the way it makes my house smell, and savoring my creation.

I have all of the ingredients to make lemon cupcakes, so I think I’m going to make them soon, but now that I’ve written this, I have to be sure I take some to my friend, Amanda. She might de-friend me otherwise, Lol.

Porches

I have written posts about my parents front porch, and how many special memories I have of that porch. My next house is going to have a porch just like that! My favorite memories are time spent on the porch! I don’t know what it is exactly, but there is just something about porches I’m drawn to.

I saw this picture as I was browsing through Pinterest, (I’m really starting to think I need a pintervention) and I instantly fell in love with those porches! Gahh!! I just love those porches!!

I will save the self discovery questions for another post as I’ve already written more than I intended. Thank you for letting my soul bleed.

Love & life lessons,

Kristian

  1. I’m a porchholic too. Are there meetings? Can we have it on the porch?

I know the feeling of missing your mom. I am not sure why but when I see the sun rise I always feel my Mom’s presence. A few other things that help me feel close to her are cooking some of the things she used to cook, crocheting and sunflowers (because she loved them). (Hugs)

I can relate with all of that. I’m almost always here if you ever want to talk…
I like to get away in the woods to clear my mind. And I’ve recently got back into music. I’ve kind of gotten away from it. For some reason, I’m obsessed with the bass and the banjo.. don’t run!! Lol!!

I saw a picture of Roger Waters with his bass, and for some reason ever since, I’ve wanted one. I’ve played the 6-string since I was a teenager. But never thought about the bass until a few months ago..
I believe I’m going to have to go with a 6-string banjo (easier) rather than the traditional 5-string (takes skill and practice)… for some reason, I’m already getting that, “I can’t do it” feeling…
I’ve felt like a wind up toy or an old Model T lately, I need some winding up to get me going. Feeling insecure as crap!

I LOVE Pink Floyd! I’ve always wanted to learn how to play guitar & piano, but I just haven’t made the time. I play clarinet, saxaphone, xylophone, & drums.

I’m sorry you’re feeling insecure! I can relate, but I know with patience & practice you could get it! Learning an instrument is no easy task. Maybe start out with 6 string & work your way to 5? You CAN do it!!!!

Ah! You’re musical too! Drums were what launched me into music. Our band class had a drum set. I had nothing better to do at lunch so I talked to the band teacher about coming down at lunch and playing. He let me go and taught me a little bit. I was the first person to not go through the beginner classes and go straight into band class.

Awesome!! Yeah, I started with the clarinet. I’ve been playing it now for about 25 years. In high school I branched out. I was in Marching band, concert band, jazz band, winter percussion, & I made honor band all through middle & high school. Music has always been an influential part of my life!

They were starting a jazz band in high school. There was a possibility they needed a guitar player for it, so I brought my guitar one day to show the teachers I could play. One said show me what you can do so I played Enter Sandman for him. He said said “hold on a minute”… went out of the room and returned with another teacher, he said “play that again..” so I did. The 2 looked at each other and smirked, told me to put the guitar away and walked off mumbling to each other… guess they weren’t Metallica fans…

Hahaha!!! Enter Sandman!! Impressive, but it’s probably because Metallica isn’t exactly jazz! Lol… I on the other hand would have welcomed you right then & there! I also love Metallica!!! I’m going to see them next month for the first time!! I’m so excited!!!

I was trying to show them I had skills to play… yes not jazz but if I could play metal then I could handle jazz. 😒

I was a huge Metallica fan in jr high and high school. Lost interest after the Black Album… IMO should’ve been their last record…

Oh I get what you meant, & completely agree! Their loss!!

I disagree. I love Death Magnetic & their latest album Hardwired to Self Destruct, but to each their own. 😌

Just not what they used to be… in my opinion (and I am opinionated lol) but they peaked at Master of Puppets… I fell in love with Jackson guitars Tama drums and Mesa Boogie amps because of that album.
