The Cadillac Lounge

Part 2:

Dean couldn’t help but think he was crazy, how could his heart fall this quickly for someone he just met? How could she have this spell over him, demon or angel? He didn’t even have to think about it, he knew it was the latter. He felt his heart swell with a joy he hadn’t felt since the birth of his daughter, who was turning 13 next month.

She frowned as she noticed a hint of sadness on his face.

For the fourth time that night, he found himself inhaling sharply, this time taking note of how empathetic she is. He smiled at her, and was overjoyed when her smile matched the one he was wearing. He scooted his chair next to hers, wrapping an arm around the back of her chair and crossing his left leg over his right knee. Her perfume was intoxicating and he found himself desiring to draw closer to her.

Her own tension grew as she sensed his, and his manly scent wasn’t helping matters. The light highlighted his handsome, square jawline causing her to steal glances when she thought he wasn’t looking.

He noticed the rise and fall of her bountiful breasts as she inhaled deeply, and exhaled slowly. He prayed to God right then and there that it was him having this affect on her, and not the wine. He willed himself to look away, wanting to be a gentleman. He was so tempted to look into her eyes, but he knew if he did he would get completely lost and there would be no turning back, and although, this pull is strong, he isn’t quite there yet.

She noticed the slump of his broad shoulders covered by his denim jacket, she fell in love with it the moment she saw him in it. She placed a comforting hand on his arm. Her soft features telling him she understood.

“I don’t want to rush things, but why don’t we just take whatever comes, no matter how fast or slow? Why don’t we trust in ourselves one last time? We could wind up heartbroken, surely, and we both are still fighting with the pain from the last heartbreak, but what if,” she sighed, “what if this is it? What if we’ve spent our whole lives looking for a love like this, one that poets write about? What if our love is better than James Fraser and Claire Beachump, Better than Romeo and Juliet?”

He sighed in defeat. Her words had won him over, she had gone into his heart with a permanent marker and marked herself in. He placed his hand on the side of her face, resting his forehead against hers. “Okay,” he whispered, as the sound of an electric, blues guitar filled the room.

Dean watched the way her body swayed in rhythm to the music, it was one of the most erotic things he’d ever witnessed. He tried and tried, but he just couldn’t keep his eyes off of her, especially after Gary Clark Jr. told a story of his childhood and how he got himself into trouble with the police.

Blurting out ”Sorry mom.”

Lorraine leaned her head back in laughter, her curls cascading down her back, her laughter belting from the pit of her stomach, and he found her reaction funnier than the actual story. He was chuckling over this beautiful woman before him, and he couldn’t help but fall for her child like spirit. How could one woman be so perfect?

“I think I’m falling in love with you.”

You Saved Me filled the room, and Lorraine couldn’t look anywhere but Dean’s eyes, even if she wanted to, his perfect golden brown eyes had captivated her.

“What a perfect moment.” she whispered.

Dean stood up, taking her hand in his and the two of them started dancing, not caring that no one else in the room was, they were lost in their own little world and he prayed for the third time that night. He prayed that God would allow this woman to take care of his heart, and for her love him despite all of its broken pieces.

“”Our love won’t be better.” He whispered in her ear.

“What?” she asked, confused.

“Earlier, you compared our love to those that have been written in fiction.

“No one love is better than the other, because if everyone had the chance to feel the way about someone the way I feel about you right now, I just know the world would be a better place.”

“We’ve just met.”

“Yes, and I would say I’ve just experienced love at first sight, but the truth is, I’ve been falling for you since that first email. The one where you asked me to edit your novel. Your compliments did wonders for my ego, and I could tell by the way you phrased your question that you’re a little shy, which I find absolutely adorable.”

“You could tell I was shy just by the way I phrased my question?”

He smiled. “You can tell a lot about a person by the way they write. But the point I’m trying to make is that our love won’t be better than anyone’s, but ours, will by far, be my favorite.”

She threw her arms around his neck, drawing him closer to her body. He gladly obliged, wrapping his hands around her waist and inhaling the wonderful scent of her shampoo. She rested her head on his shoulder, and he stroked her hair. Neither one of them wanted this moment to end.

They walked arm in arm back to her apartment. No conversation was needed as they were both basking in this new, amazing feeling that surrounded the both of them.

“This is me,” Lorraine commented as they approached her front steps.

“Thank you for accompanying me tonight, Lorraine. I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun.”

She smiled, “Thank you for buying the tickets, tonight has been amazing.”

He stared into her eyes for what seemed like hours, but in reality, was only a few seconds.

“I’m dying to kiss you.”

“What are you waiting for?”

to be continued…
