Nostalgia Thursday #2

I am still extremely close to my childhood best friend, Ashley. If you’ve been following my blog, then I’m sure you’ve noticed that I’ve mentioned her numerous times. If you know me personally, you’ve more than likely met her, or at the very least, heard about one of our many stories. We were inseparable growing up, so much so that even in adulthood it surprises people when they find out we aren’t actually related. Even my husband thought she must be a cousin when he first met her, we have similar features. Fair skin, but she’s more olive toned while I’m more golden. She tans & I burn, we both have very dark hair, & heart shaped faces. We’ve been friends for so long that our families pretty much took us in as one of their own. She’s in our family albums, & I’m sure I’m probably in a few of hers.

For today’s post I’m going to share a few things that will always make me think of Ashley & the many great memories we’ve shared from our childhood!

Ashley & I at the Pittsburgh zoo, acting like monkeys (our favorite animal,) I believe this was 2nd grade. Around 1992.

“Dear Darla, I hate your stinkin guts.” & “You are so beautiful to me,” sung in a high pitched voice were what we would often quote from this movie.

“You’re killin’ me smalls!” I still say that today. I’m sure a lot of people do!

Oh my gosh, we still love this movie!!

TV Shows:

Boy Meets World

This was our favorite! I remember many Sleepovers on Fridays after school, back when ABC Network had TGIF. This was the highlight of that lineup!

Songs:

She and I would take turns singing lead & probably annoyed her sisters & our parents to their wits end! I can’t hear this song & not think of those memories.

Celebrity Crushes:

Oh the 90’s

I crushed on Matthew Lawrence who played himself on Brotherly Love & Ashley liked Rider Strong who played Shawn Hunter, the best friend of Cory Matthews in Boy Meets World. Later in the series Matthew Lawrence joins as Shawn’s long lost, older brother, Jack. Ashley & I both were so excited! Both guys had matured by then though, & quite well I might add. 😉

I’ll stop here for now, but you can expect more about Ashley & our friendship!

What are some of your favorites from the 90’s?

Love & life lessons,

Kristian

So much nostalgia! Since I was pretty young when the decade began, I didn’t watch a lot of TV or movies until the mid-90s.

TV shows: Everything PBS – Sesame Street, Barney, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Arthur, Wishbone, Ghostwriter, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?, ZOOM, and probably a few more shows that I’m forgetting.

Movies: All things Disney! I loved Snow White, The Lion King, Toy Story, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, and more. I don’t remember the first movie I saw in theaters, but it was probably a Disney movie. I remember watching part of The Big Green on a cruise when I was nine. I also loved Mr. Holland’s Opus and Music of the Heart. And, all the Muppet movies! My favorite is Muppet Treasure Island.

Music: I listened to a lot of music from my parents, so I developed an early love for classics from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. When I got a little older, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and NSYNC were all the rage. Plus, I loved the Disney soundtracks. My mom still has The Lion King and Pocahontas on CD.

Yes!! I too loved everything Disney (I still do). I barely scratched the surface with this post, but wanted to focus more on the friendship between Ashley and I. I love taking walks down memory lane though, and learning about other’s pasts as well! So much fun!
